Planting

The graduation dress.

We put the seeds in today. We planted a lot of stuff! We don't know what will work out here so this is an experiment of sorts. We planted; watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, summer squash, zucchini, yellow straight neck squash, spaghetti squash, red and green bell peppers, Anaheim chili peppers, 3 varieties of tomatoes, bright lights swiss chard, corn and pole beans together so the the beans can crawl on the corn, bush lima beans, bush green beans, purple hull peas, eggplant, cilantro, basil and mesclun spring greens. We still have a row left to plant and the triangle shape in the back. I have 6 rhubarb plants coming. How big does rhubarb get?

We also got all dressed up for the graduation brunch; which was not today. The deadline to register was today the brunch is on Saturday. When I goof up like that I worry about myself.
We were all dressed up with no place to go. I took some pictures of Kayla. We went to Cracker Barrel and ate Old Timers breakfasts. You can eat eggs, bacon, grits, hash brown casserole, and mile high biscuits when your going to work in the yard, right?

Sometimes a dry run is a good thing! Better to be a week early than a week late.

Cracker Barrel is the cherry on top!

rhubarb can get pretty big but that triangle liiks like a nice place for it :) my mom always kept hers about 3 ft apart and (this is a kid perspective and old memory) but seems like it got knee high or higher and I was always allowed to pick and eat as long as I did not waste... of course leaves are poisionus so dont eat them LOL they get big and I recall using them as a fan (picture old church lady fans LOL) then eating the handles off
Love the garden MUST MUST MUST get mine in soon!
I bought some topsy turvy thingys to try as well as my ground garden... I have heard good things about them!

Sure, gardening, especially such ambitious gardening, deserves such a breakfast.

you can work a breakfast like that off in no time in a huge garden like that. Wow, you have planted plenty...I will be anxious to see how things turn out.

Beautiful Kayla. Like Grandma says' it's always good to do a dry run! Take care...

Karen - Your garden is beautiful! I have a tiny one here (just tomatoes & cucumbers..and some herbs).

Also, I had to laugh at the fact that you had the wrong day for the brunch! I've done that type of thing WAY to many times to count:) You are not alone in this!

Kayla's dress is darling. She's just lovely!

Rubarb gets B -I - G!!! LOL for all of my viney plants like squash and such, I put straw around it and around where it will 'run' to, sure keeps down on the weeds between and under the plants. just a thought. YOu could use dead leaves instead of straw.. I cant wait for your first little sprouts!!

rhubarb does get big, but is it ever good!!!! :)

I love the shape of your garden, too! I hope to start putting seeds down in mine this coming weekend. Too cold out today, it's been 90 for the past 4 days, and today it's 43 and rainy. The weather up here is strange!

You are not alone with the wrong date--I delivered a stinking cake on the WRONG DAY! Talk about embarrasing...

Rhubarb gets huge, give them lots of space between so the leaves can spread like they need to.

Kayla looks beautiful in her dress. My daughter is graduating this year too.

You are planting almost all of the same things that we usually plant. Except for the lima beans. I just can't eat them. I always have a great big row of mesclun and lettuce for summer salads. Your graduation girl is a beauty.

I love your garden. A lot. And it's not even growing things yet.

I can't wait to see what grows in your garden! I am very excited for you! Her graduation dress is pretty : ). It's ok to make mistakes like that sometimes. It makes life more interesting!

Re: your comment today.
I don't think I will divulge my husband's salary.
And NO, not credit cards... we will be paying CASH.... when we can. That is why I have to wait a while. (hopefully in 3-4 months)

Ah sweet friend . . . I love to come and walk amongst the beauty in your gardens and family and all the rest in your blessed life. Isn't it good to be loved and enveloped in the embrace of a joyful life?

Though it has rained for many days our cottage hums with delights of mealtimes and garden chats and reading and lots & lots of good food. You may be across the miles in geography, but as friends-by-heart we are next-door neighbors.

Happy graduation Kayla!

Happy gardening!

Happy Day!

and this one? Did I just lurk here too?

wow, I think my brain is going or you are censoring me!

Rhubarb is huge here-- not size-wise (can't answer that question, sorry), but you can get lots of stuff made with it. Great garden!
