It's A Mystery. Who Painted It?

This is an original oil painting by a California artist. All I know is that she signed her first name. Esther.

It's a huge painting. 51x63. I bought it when I had a vaulted ceiling and it was proportionate to the room. I have no place to hang it now. When it was in our home we liked to talk about what kind of house was in the garden. We used to argue about if the gate was on the inside of the garden or the outside of the garden. You know how husbands and wives are. I said it was from the inside. I had a cottage with a thatched roof from the old country, my husband had an English Tudor. We actually had fun talking about this painting. It went in the house where we lived very well.

I have been searching on the Internet this morning trying to find the artist. I wondered what price she would place on her work. I am going to put it on Craig's List. What do you think? If I can't find her what price should I put on it? The frame is white washed oak.

I'm going through the house with a sellers eye. I have a bunch of stuff I can turn loose of. TV cabinet, musical instruments nobody plays, chairs in the shed because there isn't any room since the girls moved in. I kept it because they would eventually move out, right? One did, and her room is now a utility room. I am not seeing any of the pieces in storage coming back inside. They are too good for garage sales, so maybe Craig's List. Are any of you a whiz at marketing your used items that are good?

What do you really think of the painting? Is it out of style or would it still be something someone might like?

Tell the truth.

Pretty painting. I am not good at pricing things, though. I usually price things too low because I never buy anything new.

It's a nice painting, but you'd have to have a big room for it.

I hate to say this but you said to tell the truth. It looks like one of those paintings that are made assembly line to sell at big art fairs. Although, to be honest again, this is a pretty small photo so maybe it is better than that, seen close up. Don't hate me. I have several of that type of painging myself.

I have no clue as to the painter either - but I like it . It is rather large, however it seems all springy and stuff to me. Pretty.

Sorry, can't help you with this one. It is pretty though.
Good luck!

I agree with the comment that it looks factory made--are you sure it's original? Lots of brush strokes, texture on the surface, etc? If it is original you can get a lot more for it that if it is a print. It is also quite large, so the person that gets it will need a large room, and that eliminates some people from buying it.

Price reference: I bought a large, original oil painting of the disciples w/Jesus from an antique store 3 years ago for $40.00 and I think I got a steal. They definitely didn't know what they had.

CraigsList is a great way to go. Look for similar items on EBay and CraigsList first to get an idea for what they're giong for.

It's not a factory painting. It's on canvas you can feel the textures, she is a known artist in California. My photography skills are not so hot.

But no I don't mind anybody saying what they think. I was hoping maybe some one might google like a lurker an actually know who she is. A girl can only wish.

You say that she is a painter in California? Why don't you try to find out what other paintings of hers go for. What are the dimensions? I wouldn't list it for more than $50.
