It Sure Smells Good Over Here.

The kitchen is calling to me. Can you hear it? I hear it,loudly it's saying-- pies. Food is love! Don't argue with me.  A friend of mine used to tell me that food is not love. I am still not convinced.

My hunny  is outside working on a chest of drawers for my custom closet. My hunny loves sweet potato pie. I love my hunny. I am gonna cook for him. That is pure logical love.

Kayla always takes angles that make me look like a total cow.
so why put it in the post? Why I say? No, I did not post a picture where I look like a cow. Is beef or pork on the menu tonight?

Caution pie in progress.

Actually no it is not. Yesterday, I fixed a large pot of brown rice, a large amount of brocolli and cauliflower, and 3 humungous sweet potatoes.  Large quantities on the first day make the second day an easy peasy cook off. This family loves brocolli cheese rice casserole. That's it in the oven getting bubbly. The crust is pre baking for the sweet potato pie.
Yesterday, I peeled and mashed up all the sweet potatoes and saved 3 cups for the pies today.

I used to be totally sold on pumpkin pie but not anymore. I have been converted!  Maybe it's using locally grown food that makes them so tasty I'm not sure; but they are just plain delicious.

My recipe for sweet tater pie is;
3 cups baked mashed sweet taters do not substitute canned. This is the most important step. Fresh sweet potatoes are a must!!
4 large eggs beat them in one at a time and fluff it up good. Then just add the rest of the list and mix.
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 stick softened butter--use real butter--life is just so much better with butter!
1  12oz. can evap milk OR cream. Sometimes when my friends bring me cream from their Jersey cow I use it. Is that why I look like a Jersey cow?
1 1/2 Tbs lemon juice---oooooooh this makes the difference between pumkin and sweet tater, this makes the pie soooooo goood. It'll make you slap your mama.
1 1/2 tsp real vanilla extract.
1 tsp siagon cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt.
Beat it up.

Pre bake your crusts at 400 for 10-15 mins, then add the filling. I bake my pies at 375 ( but I go ahead and stick them in at 400 and let the oven change temps while they are baking) -until they are nicely puffed and the aroma fills the kitchen. The NOSE knows! I do not like underbaked custard pies and these are basically custard pies. They will still have a bit of a jiggle in them and that is perfect.

Then we have this again. Ho hum. You know I used to be such a freak! I had the dishes that you wash by hand and the dishes you put in the dishwasher. Now, well, you know at this stage in life I take the easy road. If it ain't wood, or too big and it fits in the dishwasher......

Yep, you guessed it.

It goes in the dishwasher.  Why the heck not?
Life is too short to spend at the sink, after all there is pie to eat!

First dinner and then pie. This looks pretty tasty don't you think?  So what's cookin at your house? Do you throw all your  dishes in the dishwasher and make life easy? If you don't, try it- you'll like it.

The other day I noticed on my dashboard that I have over 400 posts. That is a plum lotta posts. I am thinking that on my 500th post I will have a give- a - way. I'm thinking about what it should be. Ya'll have any ideas of something you'd like to get for nothing win?
Yeah, I know--I love you too.

I let my two dishwashers decide how the dishes will get done and so long as it is done, I don't complain. What am I going to do when they grow up and move out?!?

I don't think I have seen you this relaxed in a very long time.., and all this cooking is like a wonderful, restorative therapy for you. I, for one, am loving all this delicious kitchen action.
As far as a giveaway..., I think a baking dish with some of your recipes in it would be great.

Okay, now I HAVE TO make sweet potato pie. I just have to. I even have sweet potatoes from my garden. (yes! I CAN grow sweet potatoes in Michigan!)

Thanks for the recipe-- I'm gonna try it! Question-- does it make one pie, or two? Seems like a lotta filling for one...

I've never had any luck prebaking a pie crust (without a weight to hold it down...). It always slumps down into a gooey mess on the bottom of the plate. So I'm always too lazy to mess with that part...

(Hey, the Word Verification for this comment is "nosin". I wanna come nosin' around your kitchen...)

What's cookin? Well I am in the process of making a HUGE pot of spagetti sauce that will make at least 5 meals. I have a ham out for tonight and another 'older' container of spagetti sauce made from before that will be tomorrows meal. I usually make HUGE batches of sauce and it lasts me for about 5 to 6 meals.

I made oatmeal cookies yesterday, a first and they turned out too delicious (if you know what I mean),lol

by the way, I love your kitchen sink. Is it porcelain because it looks like it

Hi, Karen! I am so glad ye dropped in for a visit. I enjoyed visiting ye as well, darlin'! And I've had a conversation with Darby O'Gill and offered him a pot o' gold for one of your pies. So if you happen to notice that one's gone missin', ye needn't look far! A pie is a mighty shiny object to a hungry magpie! ;-)

XO,

Sheila

Following you right back! ;-)

AND if I am MIA for a week or so, you know that's because I've had out of town company, and I am shoveling through the muck and mire of my house and yard. ;-)

XO,

Sheila :-)

I will have to try the sweet potato pie recipe. Would you also share your rice and brocolli recipe? With the pictures of your sink and dishwasher, I feel like I am right there cooking and cleaning up with you. We rarely use our dishwasher. Hand washing and drying here most of the time. Good old fashioned family time:-)

I was thinking that I liked the picture of you and that you were pretty and then you went and said it was ugly. We girls are too hard on ourselves. You are lovely.
